June 8 – 26, 2009 "PoeTweet" with Twitter. Featuring M.L Liebler! Literary arts meets 21st century technology! This is an exclusive Scarab Club/Springfed Arts "first-time-ever" event featured in cyberspace. Follow Detroit literary legend M.L. Liebler along with Cassie Poe and LaShaun Phoenix Moore while they engage their individual styles and techniques to craft verse (or prose) about "Summer in Detroit". For three weeks view each artist “tweeting” their vision line by line via Twitter. As the excitement and anticipation builds, witness the revealing of their final composed literary creations on scarabclub.org – an event you just don’t want to miss!
June 18, 2009 Literary “Spirits” (Third Thursday Cocktail Party) 6-10pm Join the Scarab Club and Detroit Synergy (detroitsynergy.org) for a special joint Third Thursday, June 18th from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. $5.00 at the door covers light hors d'oeuvres with a DJ and cash bar. In celebration of the Scarab Club's June Literary Celebration our charity partner for the evening is the United Way Reading Village project. Bring your imagination because this is one adventure you don’t want to miss! Joan Gartland is a retired librarian from The Detroit Public Library, and she is the author of A Passionate Distance (Ridgeway Press). Her poems “Egyptian Gallery in August: Detroit 1994″ & “Song in Tender Black” appear in Abandon Automobile: Detroit City Poetry 2001 (Wayne State University Press). Gartland currently works as a librarian at Macomb Community College. |
